It seems that as each year goes past, I start to think more and more about the environment and how to cut back on my family’s carbon footprint. Some of the things we’ve done so far includes walking more, driving less and using public transportation instead of taking our own car when we can. However, that just doesn’t seem like enough, and while we’ve also done things like increase our recycling habits and plant some trees in the yard, we still need to tackle our home energy usage.

So naturally I did a few internet searches for green home energy alternatives, and noticed that solar power is really increasing in popularity. After getting creative, I searched for New York solar water heater and found that I can indeed heat our water supply with solar energy. That will really excite my kids, so it’s definitely one of the energy alternatives that I’m considering. Other things I found on the web include books on how to build your own windmill, but it didn’t look like many people were having success with that. It certainly is a neat idea though, and I wonder if we will be seeing more wind as well as solar power technology in the near future.
